Art Therapy

I received my training at The Art Therapy Northern Program in Sheffield and prior to that completed an undergraduate degree in Psychology from Leeds Beckett University.

I have always seen art as an authentic and deeply personal form of expression, and so, throughout my development as a therapist, I have embraced creativity as a therapeutic tool, alongside traditional talk therapy.

Multidisciplinary Approach

I have a trauma informed approach to my practice and an interdisciplinary approach to therapy. I draw from several theories including Jungian psychodynamic, humanistic approach.

Inclusion & Diversity

I'm committed to ensuring my therapy places importance on including and embracing people across gender and sexuality, neurodiversity, class and issues relating to poverty. I continue to develop my practice to place the most marginalised people at the forefront.

Awards and Previous Projects

During my Training, myself and a fellow Art Therapist began a socially distanced funded Art Therapy project called 'Creative Connections' at Appletree Community Gardens in Wakefield. We worked with 'Spectrum people' to offer socially distanced art therapy who were struggling with their mental health and social isolation during the lockdowns in 2020. This was a great success as we were allowed to offer safe outdoor therapy in a beautiful and relaxing community garden. We were able to reach out to individuals who have struggled to access therapy in the past. This was nominated by a service user and the project won The acclaimed BBC4 "All in the mind Awards" in 2021. as part of the spectrum People Team.

Following my registration as an Art Therapist I went into crisis work, I became a support worker in a new service in Wakefield and supported individuals from the local area and towns with their mental health out of hours. This was a very rewarding experience and has taught me a lot strengthened my experience and understanding of supporting people around trauma, self-harm and suicide risk.

I then became a team leader of the service, running workshops in mental wellbeing for LGBTQ+ individuals, individual art therapy sessions, short term intervention groups for survivors of violence, and groups for individuals with learning disabilities.

Outside of therapy…

I do love to help people, but always value the time I get to hang out with my cat, explore my own painting practice, play bass guitar, or kick back with my nearest and dearest.
